Good questions. In Eastern Europe and Russia, it was pure soft power. No diaspora to speak of. In other parts of the world, absolutely, the diaspora has a significant effect on those numbers. But there’s still soft. power—think Gandhi winning 8(?) Oscars? And it wasn’t even an Indian movie. Would have been tough to imagine it doing so well without some form of soft power. He never did tell me what became of the sheep. Evidently, he crawled across the field somehow to the farmer’s house and collapsed there. The wind blew him onshore. Had it been blowing the other way, he likely wouldn’t have survived, and I wouldn’t be here!
